Memorable Memorial Day Party Ideas

Memorial Day is all about spending quality time with family and friends showing appreciation for, and honoring those who have bravely served and sacrificed their lives for our country. For most us that will mean picnics, parties and backyard get-togethers. Here are some new ideas to try this year to make your Memorial Day celebration a little more memorable:

Food:

Whether you’re serving up brats, sausage or plain old franks, everyone likes to dress theirs up differently.
  • Create a hot dog bar where your guests can choose their dog of choice, (beef frank, turkey dog, brat, Polish Sausage) and top it with cheese, chili, onions, pickles, relish, beans, mustard, (ketchup for those strange folk), mayonnaise…the possibilities are endless! Everyone is sure to enjoy making their own creation.
  • Throw an ice cream social for friends and family or even for the neighbors on your block. Get different flavors of ice cream and display the toppings in mason jars or muffin tins.
  • Get patriotic with your food. Serve a red and blue fruit bowl of watermelon and blueberries.

Fun:

I don’t care if you’re 8 or 58, everyone loves a carnival so why not bring a little carnival fun to your Memorial Day party.

Flair:

Last but not least, no Memorial Day party is complete without some patriotic flair. Red, white and blue everything.
  • One of the quickest and easiest ways to decorate a space is by adding some flowers with a pop of color. Red and white geraniums, mums, carnations or even roses in a blue vase or pot are the perfect addition to your celebration.
  • Hang some red, white and blue streamers, lanterns and balloons to enjoy during the day then transition your party into the evening hours with red and blue Christmas lights.
  • If you are feeling ambitious try your hand at some DIY decoration ideas and make some candlelight table centerpieces by dyeing rice red and blue and then layering the colored rice in mason jars and adding some tea lights
