Kingdom Undone
Southern Theater
1420 Washington Ave. S.
Minneapolis, MN 55454-1038
April 7 & 8
Cost:  $25

With Easter around the corner, Vanessa and Jeremiah Gamble of Theater for the Thirsty will present a new exploration of the final days of Jesus in Kingdom Undone. The piece examines not just the spiritual journey of those final days, but the politics that underpinned the entire era. The goal was to tell the familiar story "in a theater to a theater audience," Jeremiah Gamble says. "When I started digging into it, I was compelled by the dramatic content of the characters and the story." The piece, which has been in development for several years, has gone through a number of changes, especially after a Rough Cuts presentation at Nautilus Music Theater. That's when they discovered it wasn't going to work as a typical piece of musical theater. The Gambles stripped out all of the songs and rebuilt the play from the ground up, scaling it down and then eventually adding music back into the mix. The piece is directed by Jeffrey S. Miller, with music direction by Michael Pearce Donley. Dustin Bronson leads the cast of veteran performers as Judas. The entire piece "is an intimate look that remembers that these are real people. The language is accessible, and humor has always been a part of our theater. We tend to find the funny stuff, so this probably will be the funniest Passion Play you will ever see."
